College Life

Due to switching majors twice (first Communications, then Music, now English) I have tacked on an additional year to my undergraduate career.  Not that this is a bad thing;  I hear that you miss college when its gone.  Not only am I in no hurry to grad-gee-ate, but I am also finally enjoying and immersing myself the best I can into my academics.  I took some English and Sociology classes this summer and got something substantial out of each of them, most notably my Families in Society class and my Teaching Writing class.

“Families” allowed me to examine what a family really looks like in America.  Most think its the “Father works, mother stays home, two kids and a white picket fence” scenario, when in fact this situation is in the smallest of minorities.  This fact further solidified my notion that a famliy is truly what you make it.  Our teacher expounded on this idea, telling us the friends he grew up with were much more of a family to him than his biological one.

“Teaching Writing” allowed me to personally hone my writing skills and develop a bit of confidence and originality in what I produce.  Also, it got me excited to teach others, whether it be at a secondary or post-secondary level.

My next batch of classes plus a forthcoming semester in England looks all too promising.  Throw in a great house in midtown GR and the next two years are looking good.  Bring it on.
